Our Story

Cooking over an open fire is the simplest and oldest act of being a human. We aren’t here to make another gadget to complicate it. We came here to make a tool that makes a simple thing a little more refined. We strive to make products that would be appreciated just as much 780,000 years ago as they are now.

It started in the fire

Ember kitchen is the product built from a love of the outdoors and a lifelong friendship.  Owners Sam and Jeff met in elementary school and grew up camping and adventuring all over American west.

The idea for the cook stand came in 2015 while on a camping trip. While stacking rocks to hold a grill grate, an idea formed. "Why don’t I have a flat packing stand that I can tend fire under, and cook with a pan or grill on?" After trying some of the commercially available options, we still found them lacking. Some were huge and heavy, some were flimsy and short-lived. None of these available options packed as well, aged as well, transported as well, or cooked as well as what we wanted.

After many prototypes, several iterations, and countless cookouts later, the The Open Fire Cook Kit was born.

Early humans kept with them a tool kit of their most essential things. We like to think of our Cook Kit as a contemporary version of that. The essentials of fire cooking for the person who likes to cook on a simple fire.
